چکیده

Microplastics and agrochemicals are common pollutants in terrestrial ecosystems. Their interaction during coexistence soils may influence their fate adverse effects on organisms. The aim of this study was to investigate how the exposure two types microplastics; polyester fibres, crumb rubber; induce changes immune parameters Porcellio scaber if co-exposure microplastics affects response induced by organophosphate pesticide chlorpyrifos. A number parameters, such as total haemocyte count, differential phenoloxidase-like activity were assessed. In addition, acetylcholinesterase (AChE) haemolymph evaluated a measure bioavailability After three weeks exposure, most noticeable measured also significantly reduced AChE seen chlorpyrifos-exposed animals. Both microplastic at environmentally relevant concentrations caused only slight which not dependent type microplastic, although differed terms chemical complexity additives. Mixtures chlorpyrifos that from individual exposures. For example, alterations some suggested (AChE activity, viability) both but increase count promoted presence fibres implying joint action. conclusion, suggests processes P. slightly changed upon can modulate other co-exposed chemicals. Further research is needed short-term long-term immunity soil invertebrates.

Transformations of mercury in the terrestrial isopod Porcellio scaber (Crustacea).

The biological cycle of mercury in the terrestrial isopod Porcellio scaber was investigated. Testing the possibility of in vivo Hg(2+) methylation was divided into two methodologically different parts. Firstly, concentrations of total mercury and MeHg in isopods P. scaber and their environment from a Hg-unpolluted area were measured by the use of validated methods (CV AAS, CV AFS). The data obt...

Reduction and methylation of mercury in the terrestrial isopod Porcellio scaber (Crustacea) and its environment.

Reduction and methylation of inorganic mercury in Porcellio scaber (Isopoda, Crustacea) and its environment were studied, using a purpose-built experimental setup where Hg cycling was followed using 203Hg2+ tracer in experiments without and with isopods. In experiment without isopods, daily reduction of 203Hg2+ to 203Hg0 under sterile and nonsterile conditions was measured for three weeks to as...

Toxicity of abamectin to the terrestrial isopod Porcellio scaber (Isopoda, Crustacea).

To determine effects of the antiparasitic veterinary drug abamectin on the isopod Porcellio scaber, animals were exposed for 21 days to Lufa 2.2 soil spiked at concentrations of 3-300 mg/kg dry soil. After exposure, abamectin residues in the isopods were analysed using a novel analytical method. Toxicity was evaluated on different levels of biological organisation: biochemical, cellular and the...

Spatial distribution of calcite and amorphous calcium carbonate in the cuticle of the terrestrial crustaceans Porcellio scaber and Armadillidium vulgare.

The crustacean cuticle is an interesting model to study the properties of mineralized bio-composites. The cuticle consists of an organic matrix composed of chitin-protein fibres associated with various amounts of crystalline and amorphous calcium carbonate. It is thought that in isopods the relative amounts of these mineral polymorphs depend on its function and the habitat of the animal. In add...

Bioavailability of cobalt and iron from citric-acid-adsorbed CoFe2O4 nanoparticles in the terrestrial isopod Porcellio scaber.

The aim of this study was to determine whether citric acid adsorbed onto cobalt ferrite (CoFe2O4) nanoparticles (NPs) influences the bioavailability of their constituents Co and Fe. Dissolution of Co and Fe was assessed by two measures: (i) in aqueous suspension using chemical analysis, prior to application onto the food of test organisms; and (ii) in vivo, measuring the bioavailability in the ...
